2 Timothy 2:15-19
The word study in the King James Version could replace the words “be diligent”. Of course the approval is that we are doctrinally right. Kind of like a carpenter cutting wood straight.
There were things Timothy was to avoid. Everything that was not doctrinally right was to be shunned by him. A wrong doctrine could be like leaven in bread permeating the whole loaf. Probably like a cancer which starts very small, but soon it spreads through the whole body.
What was the doctrine of these two men in verse 18? They taught that the resurrection was past and overthrew the faith of some. Can you believe the feelings of the ones mentioned who when told that the resurrection was past didn’t make it. That would be devastating. Many doctrines like that are in todays so called Christianity.
What is the foundation of God? In Matthew 7:24 it is the Word of Christ. In I Corinthians 3:11 it is Christ Himself. In Ephesians 2:20 it is the apostles doctrine given by Christ. Here in verse 19 it is Christians who are on that foundation. They are to depart from iniquity.
