The reason Jesus said, “Let not your heart be troubled” is because of what Jesus told them about His death and Peter’s denial.  Then it is as if Jesus says to trust him.  I know what is to happen.  Being God He had the foreknowledge of it all.  Not only foreknowledge but it was pre planned even before the foundation of the world.  (Ephesians 1:4- I Peter 1:20)
Then Jesus talks to them about His Father’s house with many abodes.  It is nice to sing I’ve got a mansion just over the hilltop, but I will be satisfied just to be there whatever God has for me.  Jesus is preparing a place for me.  The first step is the cross or a place for me.  The first step is the cross or I as a sinner could not go there no matter what kind of a place it might be.  There was the imaginary story of a rich lady who went to Heaven and was looking for her mansion.  The attendant took her down the street and they came to a big place and she said, “Is this mine?” The attendant said, “No that one is for your maid.”  She thought mine must be really swell.  Then they came to a little place and the attendant said, “This is yours. You didn’t send up much material.”  That is fiction of course but something to chuckle about.
Thomas asks interesting questions such as, “we don’t know where you are going and how can we know the way.”  Jesus said, “I am the way but also the Truth.” and I like the last part, “I am the life no man comes to the Father but by Me.”
Don’t you like Thomas?  He asked an interesting question and he got a solid answer that is good for us today.  In John 20:26-29 he got a solid answer there too and he called Jesus, my Lord and my God.”  Something cults refuse to do.  Jesus is my Lord and my God also.
