John 8:31-38

Jesus told the people here “if you continue in My Word you are my disciples indeed.”  I know we are saved by grace and not works, but to take advantage of salvation and not be concerned about His words is that we take advantage of what He does for us and not what we can do for Him as disciples.
Then the next verse says, “ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.”  In John 14:6 Jesus says, “I am the Truth.” What freedom I have in being a disciple of Christ and knowing His truth.  There was always an argument about freedom.  When I was walking in sin I seemed as free as a bird.  Then when I knew Christ (the Truth) I couldn’t walk that way anymore.
Then in verse 36 Jesus says, “if the Son shall make you free ye shall be free indeed.” I can attest for now 60 years I have walked in freedom.  Some growing was needed.  I don’t want to be a 60 year old baby.  That is not freedom.
Jesus speaks to these Jewish men about being Abraham’s seed.  To be an offspring of a man of faith does not mean we have that faith.  Ishmael and Esau were from Abraham, but they were not men of faith though they were Jews. Jesus accuses them that His word had no place in them.  He also accused them of having another father, the devil himself.
