Luke 18:15-27

We sing the song:  “Jesus Loves the little children, all the children of the world.”  Right now terrorists are killing children.  Ungodly parents are abusing children.  Jesus said for these that it would be better that a mill stone be hanged around their neck and they be cast into the sea.  He said of such is the Kingdom of Heaven.  We have to come to Him with childlike faith.

Next we have the man who Luke calls a ruler coming to Jesus asking what he must do to inherit eternal life.  There are people who want to do something to get to Heaven and eternal life.  There are people who want to ‘do’ something to get to Heaven and eternal life.  Because the Gospels are still in the Old Testament era, he was told to obey the Law of Moses.  Of course it had to be by faith as we can see in Hebrews chapter eleven.  Now Jesus only asks for less than half of the commandments.  This is his life before people which the ruler claimed he did them all.

Now Jesus said you lack one thing.  Did Jesus mean he got eternal life by giving all his money away?  Hardly!  Jesus knew his heart and this was to reveal to him how covetous his heart really was.  Also nothing is mentioned about the first commandment which is appears he did not observe.  Then Jesus said:  “Give it all away and follow me.”  The most important phrase is “follow Me.”  He went away sorrowful.  Jesus then says that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to be saved.  The disciples question that.  Jesus said:  “with God all things are possible.”  Grace makes it possible.
