Acts 17:1-9

It seems that Paul was loaded with problems where ever he preached.  Jesus said this to Ananias when he chose Paul, “I will show him how much he will suffer for My names sake.” (Acts 9:16)  In 2 Corinthians 1 Paul gives a concise listing of his sufferings.  But notice Jesus words, “for my names sake.”  Everything I do should be for His names sake.  Part of Psalm 23 says, “He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His names sake.” (verse 3)
There was trouble in Thessalonica but Paul was sent away to Berea.  There they searched the scriptures to see whether these things were so.  They were called noble.  What scriptures did they search?  Since there was no New Testament it had to be the Old Testament.  How fortunate we have the New Testament but we have to search the Old Testament to verify what is in the New.  I love reading the Old Testament, but I want to be more concerned about the New.
