Acts 2:37-47

These verses begin with the term, “They were cut to the heart, so they asked Peter what we shall do?” I am sure some of them were ones who shouted crucify Him. Remember the words of Jesus on the cross, “Father forgive them for they know not what they are doing.”  Peter now says for them to repent.  I don’t want to use the command to be baptized yet until I emphasize that repentance is a total change of mind.  I am sure people here would say that baptism is a requirement of salvation and they use some of these verses to do so.  That would make part of salvation and extra work something that someone would have to do.  I do believe some earnest preachers fall into that category.  I always make baptism a testimony of the work of grace in the heart.  It says that those who gladly received the word were baptized. A voluntary act.
I want to emphasize that the number was three thousand souls.  I also emphasize the word continued.  I have seen some baptized who didn’t’ continue too.
