In verse 12 of this chapter we were aliens and strangers from the covenants of promise.  Then in verse 13 we are brought near by the blood of Jesus.
Then in our verses today we are no longer strangers, but fellow citizens with the saints (I take this as Jewish Christians) but the best part members of the household of God.  I just finished an article on God’s covenant relationship with Abraham and his posterity.  This will end only in the millennial reign of Christ.  Now we who know Christ are members of the household of God.  This is a privileged position and I am glad to be part of it.  Household means family.
From here on we also are part of a building as living stones, part of the temple of God.  The New Testament speaks of three foundations.  Hearing and doing Christ’s word in Matthew 7:24.  Christ himself in I Corinthians 3:11 is the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets.  Jesus Christ is the chief cornerstone.  Now what does it mean about the foundation of the Apostles and prophets.  It means all we need to know about our Christian life has been given to us by them.  Now it is put together in the wonderful book called the New Testament.  Through this we are built together for a dwelling place of God by the Spirit.  Hallelujah God lives in me.
