In Ephesians 4:11 enumerates spiritual gifts to the church which are men.  Two of these categories are foundational gifts in chapter 2:20 and are no longer with us.  So what we have left is evangelists, pastors and teachers.  Notice there are three kinds of men and not one man fulfilling all three gifts.  That is the mistake of the organized church government today.
So what are these three men for? They are to equip the saints for the work of the ministry and for the edifying (building up) of the body of Christ.  Can one man do all that with these so called gifts? The purpose is till we all come to the unity of the faith and the knowledge of the Son of God to a perfect mankind, the measure being the fullness of Christ.  Can we get there with one man?
These men (all three) are to keep us from being tossed to and fro with every wind of doctrine (teaching) bringing spiritual children to healthy adult Christians. So they can do the same for others who come to Christ.  Dawson Trotman of the Navigators group used this kind of philosophy calling it, “multiplying of the church”. We lack it today.  Can we bring it back?
