The first thing I would note that Ezekiel was a captive.  He then speaks of the heavens opened and seeing visions of God.
Ezekiel then says about the Word of the Lord coming to him.  I want to note here that when the Bible was complete (Old Testament first then New Testament later) we have enough to live a holy life before God.  There is no excuse because the book is not that large and we need to get a translation that is understandable.  However we will probably never master it.
This may be a parallel to Psalm 137 which begins with, "by the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down year we wept when we remembered Zion." We could look at that Psalm as a big minus but Ezekiel was getting a big plus.  What a vision that was.  He said that was visions of God.
I would at this time attempt to say what these four living creatures are all about with their four different faces and their straight forward movements.  Just read and study the whole picture.
