This story was the content of a sermon by a preacher named Robert G. Lee titled “Payday Someday”.  I never heard the sermon but I have it in a paperback book I bought from somewhere.  This biblical story I do find interesting, but certainly does not delight me.  What I do see is that people can be covetous even when there is no real need.  Lord deliver me from two words, “I want”.
Ahab wanted the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.  Ahab wanted it for a vegetable garden.  Imagine tearing out those beautiful productive grape vines and growing vegetables.  Naboth would not sell because it was his inheritance from his father. This word inheritance was a very spiritual thing in Israel sometimes going back to entering the land of Israel.  Now I ask, “What was considered spiritual to us of Ahab & Jezebel?”  I want to pause here to say to myself, “How do I carry myself before men?”  I am sure there are men who have the same characteristics as Ahab and I am sure women like Jezebel. My concern is where I stand and how do I feel as I look at myself in the mirror every morning.
