I Peter 1:9-16

The word “end” as it is in other places in the New Testament means the final outcome.  Here the final outcome of our faith is the salvation of your souls.  We are saved when we accept Christ which for me has been fifty eight years now, but the final outcome is when we arrive in Heaven!

Can you think of what wa in the mind of the Prophets when for instance David in Psalm 22 says, “they pierced my hands and my feet even to the casting lots for his garments.  or Isaiah 53:  “He was led as a sheep to the slaughter and silent before shearers.”  How about this one in Zechariah 12:10 “they shall look upon Me who they have pierced.”  They were probably very curious as to who this Man was to be and what it was all about.  Consider Isaiah whose whole book is almost all prophetic of both Christ’s first and second advent.  Peter now says it was the Spirit of Christ that was in them.  Peter said this about the preaching of Noah which lasted about 120 years.

For a long time in my own personal preaching ministry, I didn’t know what “gird up the loins of your mind” meant.  Like the girdle around the waist of the warrior, to hold in his loose street length garment, we must put a tight belt around our mind so that we reign in anything thoughtless and especially sinful thoughts!  I say reign in loose thoughts.  The last thought is this:  “be ye holy: for I am holy.”  We are taught from both Paul and Peter to be like God.  Christ is our pattern for our own lives.
