I see in all these verses an interesting factor. Samuel was mourning for Saul. God says,
"I have rejected him." He then sends him to Jesse to anoint one of his sons to be the next king of Israel.  The brightest and the best were rejected by God leaving the youngest and perhaps smallest too.  God who looks at things different than us knows the heart of David so he is anointed to be the next king of Israel.

Then the next thing that is ironic is that when Saul was troubled he needed someone to play the music for him. Someone told Saul about David being skilled at the harp. Now David was to have a taste of palace life.  When things seem to go wrong in your life God knows just how to put it together.
I want to go back to verse 7 where Samuel said, "Man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks unto the heart." David had a heart like a shepherd.  I have made mistakes like that in invalidation of men too.
