It Is Finished! – John 19:23-30

Jesus cried out from the cross, “It is finished”. (tetelestai)  This Greek word was common and used in several ways.

1.  Servant – completion of the work assigned
2.  Priest – faultless sacrifice with no blemish
3.  Artist – finalized work of art or painting
4.  Merchant – debt that was paid in full

All of these meanings are seen in the work of Christ on the cross.  Jesus completed the work or assignment given to Him by the Father.  He was the perfect Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.  Christ’s death was the final fulfillment of God’s plan of redemption with all of its prophecies and types.  Jesus paid the full completed price for our redemption!

I owed a debt I could not pay, He paid a debt He did not owe!  Nothing else must be done for my salvation.  The difference between Christ and all other religions is two letters.  All other religions require people to “do” something to gain favor.  True Christianity says the work is “done”.  For salvation one must simply rely on the finished work of Christ!

Hallelujah tis done I believe on the Son I am saved by the blood of the crucified one!!!

Walk with the Lord and remember “It is finished”!!!
