John 10:1-13

The first thing we see is that we see in the first three verses a door.  This word door means the proper entry to a building or anything for that matter. Here the door is the fulfillment of all prophesies of the Old Testament concerning this Man who is to be the Shepherd of the people of God.
A proper characteristic of this Shepherd is that he knows the name of all His sheep and calls them and leads them out.  I as one of His sheep know that I am different from the rest of the people of the world.  I have been led out.
Another thing is that He doesn’t drive His flock He leads them. Here we read that He goes before them.  We see this principle in Psalm 23.
Jesus speaks of a stranger.  This represents someone who has a teaching that is not the teaching of the Shepherd.  We are not to follow that man.
Now Jesus says that He is the door (the proper entry) of the sheep.  Now through Him we go in and out and find the proper food.  There is a thief.  A thief robs and steals, but Jesus counters that by saying, “I am come that they may have life and that they might have it more abundantly.” Not only that He gives His life for the sheep.  This speaks of the Cross of Christ.  Peter says, “Who His own self bore our sins in His own body on the tree.” I Peter 2:24.  Let  me introduce you to Jesus my good Shepherd.
