I have heard messages about being saved from this first verse but why did Jesus say what He did? We must take into account that when John's letter was written there were no chapter or verse numbers.  Just one big letter which I don't even know where it was written.  So when Jesus said , "Let not your heart be troubled and believe in me." He had just told them about His death and He told Peter he would deny Him three times by the next morning.  What Jesus was saying was just believe that I know what is going to happen.  This also helps confirm his Deity.  Next Jesus continued to confirm His deity by speaking about His Father's house and going to prepare a place for us to live.  I always explain about mansions because it is only that way in the two King James translations.  I'll be satisfied whatever Jesus has for me.  He then says after going to prepare a place for us He is coming  back to get us.  Then we have Thomas with his question that he didn't know where Jesus was going and how come he knows the way. I am glad Thomas asked that.  It gives us clarity.  Notice three words that Jesus said, "I am the Way, The Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father but by me." I want to emphasize those words.  The Way, The Truth and the Life.  We hang on all these words.
