Luke 1:13-25

How interesting that the angel Gabriel comes to Zechariah and tells him that his prayer is heard.
Now both Zechariah and Elizabeth are old and far past their child bearing years.  What I find more interesting is that God hears every true prayer and answers when He wants to.  So my advice is to keep praying.  God is not on the same time table as we are and His ways are higher than ours.  So keep praying for those unsaved loved ones, you never know when your prayers might be answered!

The child God is going to give Elizabeth and Zechariah is pre-named John.  An interesting Bible study to do is to research all the instances in the Bible where a child was prenamed before his birth!  Isaac is the first one and even the Gentile King Cyrus was one of them!  The angel goes on to tell all that John would do.  He would be filled with the Holy Spirit from his mother’s womb, but the most important was that he would introduce the people to Jesus who the apostle later calls the Lord of Glory.  One phrase that I like is John 1:29, where John crys out, “Behold the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.”

Zechariah didn’t believe the angel so Gabriel said, “I am Gabriel and stand before the presence of god.  Zechariah is to be mute until John is born.”  We see the promise of Elizabeth in the last of our verses today.  She is excited that this would happen to her.  What do I get out of all this?  All I can say is:  It is no secret what God can do!
