Sin brings death and all of us are sinners.  New life in Christ is the only way of escape from the bondage of sin. Without Christ we:

1.  Walk according to the world  2:2a
2.  Walk controlled by satan  2:2b
3.  Walk dominated by the flesh  2:3

MERCY – God not giving us what we do deserve – His immediate and severe judgment in hell.
GRACE – God giving us what we do not deserve – His favor of victory over the penalty, power and presence of sin.

God supplies His mercy and grace through Jesus Christ.  Through faith in Christ we are “quickened” (made alive).

1. New person – “quickened together”
2. New power – “raised us up together”
3. New position – “sit together in heavenly places”
