Romans 4:1-12

These verses tell us about Abraham and what Paul says about justification.  We can be the nicest persons but that will not do anything to get us to Heaven.  The chief theme in these verses is that Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
In verse 4 we find as sinners we have a debt we could never pay to get any favor with God.  It is Christ alone by His blood that paid the debt we owed.  Verse 6 speaks of faith alone not works that took care of that debt.
Paul quotes David and this was after the worst sin he could possibly have done, the adultery with Bathsheba and the killing of her husband.  Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sin is covered.  Those to whom the Lord will not impute sin.  We are saved by faith alone, by grace alone through Christ alone.  The rest is in chapter 6 about the fact of being dead to sin and alive to God.
