Who Have We Been Listening to Lately? – Exodus 5:13-23

Things were getting worse for the Israelites!  After Moses’ appeal to Pharaoh, the work demands were increased and the people knew just who to blame.  They claimed that Moses and Aaron had made them abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh.  After hearing this accusation, Moses cried out to God asking why He had done this to His people.

All of this should have been no surprise to Moses!  Earlier, in chapter 4, God told Moses that He would harden Pharaoh’s heart and that the people would not be allowed to go.  Yet, Moses, after being rebuked by the people he was to lead, accused God of failing to deliver on His promise.

Sometimes it can be very easy for us to forget what God has said to us…especially when so many around us (and even we ourselves) have so much to say.  Sometimes, because the people around us are…physically around us, we can be persuaded to fear them more than we fear God.  Let’s remember today to keep God’s Word in our hearts and minds so that when the opinions of others which contradict His Word build up around us, we can remember and obey the One who is truly the Lord of our life.

Psalm 119:11 – Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
